Admission Policy and Criteria for Programmes

The Central School of English has strict admissions policies for its courses.

All students are required to do an entry-level test and will be assigned to a class based on the result.

The Central School of English  offers a free online test located at: https://centralschool.ie/level-test/

All students intending to study on our 25-week Academic Year Programme (non-EU/EEA students who require immigration permission to study in Ireland) must choose and pay for a recognized exam before finalizing their enrolment with the school.

The Central School of English enters students for one of the Cambridge Assessment: English exams listed below. Entry-level requirements are shown alongside the exam:

Cambridge Preliminary (PET) Exam. This is a B1 level exam and the minimum entry level to begin this course is A2.

Cambridge First (FCE) Exam. This is a B2 level exam and the minimum entry level to begin this course is B1.

Cambridge Advanced (CAE) Exam. This is a C1 level exam and the minimum entry level to begin this course is B2.

More details about these exams can be found on the Cambridge English Website.

If a student does not reach the minimum required level to undertake preparation for any of the above exams, the student will not be admitted to the school, but may, if they wish attend an online course.

It should be noted that students can only renew their course with the Central School of English at a higher level than that which they finished in their previous school.
