Our Academic Year Programme is a 25-week course aimed at non-EU/EAA students studying on a long-term study visa. A long-term study visa gives a student permission to stay in Ireland for the duration of the course and for a further 8 weeks holiday.
Students can work in Ireland to support the cost of their studies (Up to 20 hours per week in course time and 40 hours per week during holidays.)
The course includes 15 hours of study per week.
On completion of their 25-week course, students sit an internationally recognized exam, the Cambridge PET (B1), FCE (B2) or CAE (C1) Exam.
The syllabus is designed to encourage progression and confidence with a focus on building fluency in spoken English.
The courses are international with students from both EU/EEA and non-EU/EEA countries attending the course modules.
There is a maximum of 12 students per class.
Students study at our premises at 23 Marlborough Street, Dublin 1. This course cannot be taken online and can be taken in the morning schedule or the afternoon schedule (Full programmes below). It cannot be taken in the evening.
For Pre-Intermediate (A2) students:
General English and Exam Preparation: PET (The Cambridge B1 Exam)
For Intermediate (B1) students:
General English and Exam Preparation: FCE (The Cambridge B2 Exam)
For Upper Intermediate (B2) students:
General English and Exam Preparation: CAE (The Cambridge C1 Exam)
The morning Academic Year Programme consists of nine 2-hour classes per week – two each on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 09:00 – 12:50 and one on Friday from 09:00 – 10:50, when students finish early for a longer weekend.
There is a ten-minute break between classes and a ten-minute break in the middle of each class, meaning a total of 15 hours study time per week.

This course covers all four skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking English. It prepares students for an internationally-recognized Cambridge English exam while developing fluency in spoken English with the world-renowned Callan Method.
The afternoon Academic Year Programme consists of ten classes per week – two each on Monday to Friday from 1:30 – 15:00 and 15:15 – 16:45.
There is a fifteen-minute break between classes and a total of 15 hours study time per week.

Our Academic Year Programmes are listed on what is known as the ILEP (Interim List of Eligible Programmes) meaning they have been approved by the Irish Government as being suitable for Non-EU/EEA students who wish to apply for immigration permission to study in Ireland for more than 90 days.
Students must be accepted onto the course and pay the full course fee before they are issued a ‘Letter of Acceptance’ from the Central School of English which the student then submits to the Irish immigration service (ISD) along with other required documentation for permission to remain in Ireland for the duration of the course.
The permission to remain in Ireland lasts for 8 months – 25 weeks course and 8 weeks holiday. Students are permitted to work in Ireland for up to of 20 hours per week in course time and 40 hours per week during holidays.
There are a number of conditions attached to the immigration permission including regular attendance on the course and students are advised to familiarise themselves with these before applying. These are outlined in the school’s Terms and Conditions and particular attention should be paid to the sections on Attendance and Punctuality, the consequences of non-attendance – see Policy on Absenteeism and Expulsion – and to the rules governing when and how Holidays from the course may be taken.
